Abstract

Bullying is a common social problem in schools, seriously impacting students' psychological well-being and academic development. This study aims to determine the strategies teachers use to address bullying at SMPN 12 Darul Makmur. This study was analyzed using Robert K. Merton's structural functionalism theory, which includes the concepts of function, manifest function, latent function, and social dysfunction. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the forms of bullying that occur at SMPN12 Darul Makmur include verbal bullying such as teasing, calling parents names, and harsh words. Physical bullying, such as fights caused by verbal bullying, involves teasing each other and one of them not accepting the teasing, leading to a fight. This bullying is influenced by social environmental factors, the influence of social media and online games, and a lack of understanding of character values in students. Strategies used include anti-bullying socialization, implementing rules and regulations, and instilling religious attitudes, and summoning students, imposing sanctions, and summoning parents. The manifest function of a safe school environment, however, when social problems occur in the school environment, teachers seek ways or strategies that can be used to overcome the bullying, but it turns out that the strategies implemented by teachers are not fully running well, resulting in dysfunction and failure in a social system. This study suggests that teachers in schools can establish anti-bullying policies and have strict rules regarding bullying.
