Publication Process
1. Manuscript Submission
Authors submit manuscripts electronically through the journal’s online submission system. Submissions must follow the journal’s formatting requirements and comply with the Author Guidelines. Incomplete submissions or manuscripts that do not follow basic technical requirements may be returned to authors before further consideration.
2. Editorial Screening
All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial screening by the editorial team. At this stage, the manuscript is assessed for relevance to the journal’s focus and scope, basic scholarly quality, and compliance with ethical standards. Similarity checking software is used to identify potential plagiarism. Manuscripts that fall outside the journal’s scope, show serious ethical concerns, or fail to meet minimum academic standards may be rejected at this stage without external review.
3. Assignment to Reviewers
Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned to at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise. JIIE applies a double blind peer review process, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed. Reviewers are selected to avoid conflicts of interest and institutional overlap with the authors.
4. Peer Review
Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on clarity of argument, theoretical positioning, methodological rigor, data quality, and contribution to existing knowledge. Review recommendations typically fall into one of the following categories: acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection. Reviewers are expected to provide constructive and reasoned feedback to support editorial decision making.
5. Editorial Decision and Revision
Based on the reviewers’ reports, the editor makes an initial decision and communicates it to the authors. Where revisions are requested, authors are required to respond systematically to reviewer comments within the specified timeframe. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation when necessary.
6. Final Evaluation and Preparation for Publication
Once a manuscript is accepted, it undergoes final editorial checks, including consistency with reviewer comments, language clarity, reference accuracy, and formatting. The editorial team may request minor editorial revisions at this stage to ensure publication quality.
7. Proofreading and Author Approval
Authors receive page proofs for final review prior to publication. At this stage, only minor corrections are permitted. Authors are responsible for carefully checking the accuracy of the final version and providing timely approval.
8. Publication
Approved articles are published online as part of the journal’s scheduled issue. Published articles are made available through the journal’s website and indexing services in accordance with the journal’s open access and archiving policies.
